About the event

It took 8 years to dig the canal by hand, with pick, shovel, and wheelbarrow. Learn about the circumstances of the early days of the Canal and immerse yourself in the work for a one-hour interactive presentation by Historic Pursuits. (Dress for outside weather, just like the canal workers. Activities do not include being on the water.)

Immediately following, enjoy learning about the Hotchkiss Peppermint Oil company on the banks of the Canal with docent "Peppermint Patty" who will give a tour. After that, "Capture the Canal" with a short walk or drive up to the Wayne County History Museum for a tour of the Canal Exhibits featuring an original wheelbarrow from 1820 and a chance to practice knot-tying.

This is a FREE Family-friendly event for kids and adults, sponsored in part by the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation, Part A.

Please RSVP so we know you are coming!
