THIRD THURSDAYS - Happy "History" Hour

5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

We are starting an hour earlier to get you here after work and home in time for dinner. 

 

September 21st - RESEARCHING YOUR Civil War FAMILY TREEJoin us to welcome Marj Perez, former Wayne County Historian, who will share her expertise on how and where to look for genealogical and/or historical information on prior generations of your family. Have you ever wondered if your any of your ancestors served in the Civil War, or when they arrived in Wayne County? She'll tell us how. Don't miss this chance to start adding names to your family tree. 

Old Lyons "History and Haunts" Walking Tour

October Event Dates: Fri 10/13; Sat 10/21; Fri 10/27 & Sat 10/28

Time: Walks begin at 6:30 pm sharp. Guests must arrive 15 minutes early to check-in.

Description: Beginning with the old sheriff’s residence, jail and museum, meet “Mrs. Snedaker, the Sheriff’s wife” and then enjoy a 90-minute hosted walking tour to hear the ghostly history behind some of the haunted sites in Lyons, NY and learn what may lurk behind the bushes or lie beneath the surface, in some cases, literally.

Cost: $8 student (K-12); $15 adults, includes 90-min hosted tour and mini-walk through Museum Jail and Carriage House. Maximum group size is 12 persons. No refunds unless cancelled by WCHS. Click here to Shop for Tickets.

Details: These Tours will be conducted in the rain, unless otherwise determined unsafe. Please bring umbrellas and walking shoes. Walking will be on sidewalks and crossing some village streets.

October 19th - CIVIL WAR SURGEONS Our favorite "Rebel" surgeon, Les Buell, will be on hand to give a close-up look at the terrifying treatments prescribed for the men who fought... on both sides of the Civil War. Come on out for a Happy History Hour, have some light refreshments, and see a mid-19th century doc who really enjoys his work!

Nov 16th - IN HISTORIC PURSUIT - Historic Pursuits proprietor Chris Blomgren debuts his theatrical and entertaining approach to teaching and learning more about local history, especially historic survival in the 21st century.
