About the event

After the installation* of the True Valor Monument at Central Park in Lyons, please join us to share in the success and culmination of 3-years work on the True Valor monument.
This event will provide lite fare and soft drinks. The bar will not be open.
A special presentation at 3:15pm will shine a new light on the additional impacts of the war, especially on civilian women who followed their boys into combat. Author Carolyn Ivanoff will recount this story from her book, Cornelia Hancock's Civil War: A Heart Touched by Fire, about a woman who helped set up a field hospital at the Schwartz Farm in Gettysburg and who remained dedicated to the 111th long after the war ended. Her story underscores the tragedies of war from a woman's perspective.
PLEASE NOTE: *Final Installation of the bronze color-bearers statue, the second piece of the monument, is weather dependent. Plans are for install will be 10/31 from 12pm - 2pm. Rain date for install will be 11/1 in the morning. The public is welcome to attend but must remain outside the perimeter of safety during the installation.
A short consecration ceremony will take place on 10/31 at 2:30pm for the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) induction of new members to the Judson Hicks Camp 111, named in honor of one of the color bearers depicted in the bronze statues.
