Welcome Reception - Living History & Monument Dedication

Welcome Reception for the "True Valor at Gettysburg" monument dedication brings together collaborators, historians, researchers and enthusiasts for an evening of listening and learning that will set

the stage for the following day's living history and dedication events.

Sculpted by Gary Casteel of Gettysburg, the "True Valor" monument depicts a scene of heroism and patriotic duty undertaken by four color bearers, local men, who fought for a national and a noble cause.

Reception to be held at the Elks Lodge #869 Lyons, adjacent to Lyons Central Park where the monument is located.

We are proud to host Wayne County native, Dave Malgee of Williamson. He will provide a general overview of the 111th regiment with anecdotes and artifacts pertaining to the early days of the 111th regiment, from muster to Gettysburg.

Malgee received his BA in history from SUNY Oswego and his MA in history from the University of Richmond. He has been a lifelong student of the Civil War and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Gettysburg Museum of History and on the Advisory Board of Gettysburg History.
