WHAT'S NEW?
Lock up & Jail 'em a Big Success!

.Wayne County Historical Society “Lock up & Jail em” a success!

The Wayne County Historical Society held their new fundraiser on Friday afternoon, the
Lock up & Jail ‘em. At 3:00 the cars went out to pick up Wayne County VIP’s from all over
the county. At 3:30 the detainees were handed cell phones, donated to the event by
Cingular the New AT&T and they started making their calls, each trying to raise $500 for
the Museum of Wayne County History.

17 Detainees were at the Museum of Wayne County History calling friends, family and co-
workers. 4 detainees were working off-site, and 7 detainees sent in donations weeks
before the event even began.

The Detainees included Rose Supervisor Lucinda Collier, Meade Maloy Agency’s Steve
Felker, Lyons Supervisor James Fabino, Randy Mitchell D.D.S, Wayne County Planner
Sharon Lilla, Wayne County Historical Society President Helen Santelli, Lyons National
Bank President Bob Schick, Former Business Manager of the Lyons Central School
District David Alena, Lyons National Bank Branch Manager Darlene Whitcomb, Owner of
Dobbins Painting & Contracting Luke Dobbins, Lyons Hardware’s Joe Snell, Wayne
Cooperative Insurance’s Jeffrey W. Rice, WACK’s News Director Rus Jeffrey, Supervisor
of Williamson James Hoffman, Wolcott’s Bob’s Big M co-owner Robert Delf,  N. Rose
Wolcott’s Interim Superintendent Lucinda Miner, and Marion Supervisor Jolene Bender.

Off-site Detainees were Carpet Spectrum’s Dawn Dalberth, Porter Law’s John & Kelly
Porter, Children’s Continuous Care’s Wanda Arnold and Monroe-Gorman Title’s Michael
Gorman.

Some Wayne County VIP’s that were invited to be detainees couldn’t participate because
of their busy schedules, but sent in donations anyway, like Supervisor of Ontario Joseph
Molino, Assemblyman Bob Oaks, Supervisor of Sodus Steve LeRoy, Wayne County
Economics Development Coordination’s  Peg Churchill, Spinco Metal Products owner
Bob Straubling, Silver Hill Associates co-owner James Hamburger, and Newark resident
Susie Earl.

Museum of Wayne County History’s Executive Director, Larry Ann Evans said that the
fundraiser was an enormous success, “Every detainee really working hard to reach their
goal of $500 each,” said Evans who went on to say that some detainees didn’t stop when
they reached $500. “Steve Felker came early because his son had a game in Rochester
and as he totaled up his pledges we were all amazed that he had gotten over $700!”

“Some people really wanted to go through the whole “detainee” experience,” said Evans
“Jolene Bender, Lucinda Collier and James Hoffman went right to the South Side Jail
cells and wouldn’t come out until they were finished raising the pledges!”

Some people got all their pledges before they came. “Bob Schick called me and said
‘What happens if I get all my ducks in a row before I get there?’ and I said then you can sit
back, relax, get a massage, have a glass of wine and taunt the other detainees. And that’s
what he did!” laughed Evans.

At first count, Museum Manager Mary Erle said that over $10,000 dollars has been raised,
“And that’s not counting what the offsite detainees may have raised,” said Earl.

‘We are all very pleased how this fundraiser went and are planning to do it again next
year,” said Evans who went on to say that all the detainees said that they would love to
participate again.

“It’s for such a good cause,” said Evans, “It helps us all have more pride in the area where
we live, knowing that such great people and such incredible things were made right here
in Wayne County.”
